Season 34
The thirty fourth season of the comedy based variety show Saturday Night Live was premiered on 13th September 2008. The season is supposed to have a total of 22 episodes to make up for the episodes that could not be aired in the last season due to the strike of the Writers Guild of America. The first episode of the season was hosted by Michael Phelps, who has won the Gold medal for swimming at the Olympics. From the seven episodes that have been aired till date, episode 4 has been hugely appreciated by the audiences. Also the special episode aired a day before the Presidential Polls, has been rated as the second most popular episode of the entire series. The effect of the presidential polls could be seen in this season of the series. The sketches were based around the general process of the election However, it is yet to be seen whether this trend will continue in the future episodes of the season as well. The season, up till now has featured sketches like Wolverines, The Impossible Truth, Paul Simons vs. Connie Hawkins, The Bees have been Cut, Dangerous But Inept, Droolers Anti-Defamation League, Ambassador Training Institute, Reluctant Pageant Winner, and Show Us Your Guns etc. In addition the show has also featured the likes of James Franco, Lil Wayne, Anne Hathaway, The Killers, John Hamm, and David Cook etc.
In the last week of October one of the cast members, Amy Poehler left the show on a maternity leave. She has been replaced by Bobby Moynihan, who was a member of the stage troupe of Upright Citizens Brigade, New York. Till now there have been no other changes in the cast. The season is one of the longest in the series and is supposed to end sometime in May next year.
