Season 32
Season 32 of the series premiered on 30th September 2006. There season had a total of 23 episodes. Due to the shortage of funds, no new cast members were hired, even though five cast members from the previous season had left the show. To compensate for the loss of cast members Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, Jason Sudeikis and Kristen Wiig were upgraded from featured players to repertory cast members. The show also got a new director in Don Roy King. The season revived the show, after it saw an extended droop in its ratings from season 27 onwards. The episodes that were hosted by Dane Cook, Alec Baldwin, Jeremy Piven, Rainn Wilson and Peyton Manning were highly appreciated by the audience. After Tina Fey left the show, the Weekend Update was restored to the old format of one male and one female anchor. The season saw Seth Meyers joining Amy Poehler as her co-anchor for Weekend Update. Andy SambergDigital Shot named Dick in a Box. The shot was telecast in the 9th episode of the season and was got a Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Music and Lyrics. The Season featured the likes of Drew Barrymore, Chris Rock, Justin Timberlake, Cameron Diaz, Mathew Fox, and Carrie Underwood etc.
The final episode of the season was aired on 19th May 2007. Later, a special show based on this season called Saturday Night Live: The Best of ‘06-07’ was created. It contained the most popular sketches and parts of Weekend Update from the season. The show, which is now available on DVD, has been telecast twice on television.
Seasons Top Ranked Episode – Justin Timberlake
This was the season’s 9th episode and was aired on 16th December 2006. The episode was hosted by Justin Timberlake who was also the musical guest for the night. The sketches included Homelessville, Target Greatland, Dry Eyes, Hip Hop Kids and the Emmy Award winner Dick in a Box. My Love and What Goes Around Comes Around were the performaces given by Justin Timberlake.
