Season 16 to 30

The 16th season of SNL was aired on 29th September 1990. Chris Farley, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Julia Sweeny, David Spade, Tim Meadows, and Rob Schneider were hired as featured players. The sketches were set in crowded areas such as courtrooms, markets etc. Dennis Miller and Jan Hooks left the show. A total of 20 episodes were aired in the season that ended on 18th may 1991. The 17th season started on 28th September 1991. The season had a total of 21 episodes. Dennis Miller became the new anchor of Weekend Update. Victoria Jackson left the show at the end of this season. The final episode aired on 16th May 1992. Season 18 of the series premiered on 26th September 1992. The season saw Sinead O’Connor tearing up the photo of Pope John Paul II at the end of her second performance. The season contained a total of 20 episodes with the final episode telecast on 15th May 1993. The 19th season started on 25th September 1993 and was marred by controversies. Cypress Hill, were disallowed to perform, when they were found smoking marijuana backstage. Martin Lawrence was banned from hosting any further episodes after his shocking comment about feminine hygiene. The season ended on 14th May 1994 with Phil Hartman and Julia Sweeny leaving the show.

The 20th season began on 24th September 1994. The season which had a total of 20 episodes, was criticized for its poor quality. Norm McDonald replaced Weekend Update anchor Kevin Nealon. Two cast members, Danitra Vance and Michael O’Donoghuethst season of the show was aired on 30th September 1995. The season had 20 episodes. To improve the quality and prevent the cancellation of the series, most of the previous cast members were replaced by new cast members like died. The season ended on 13 May 1995. The 21Darrell Hammond, Chris Kattan, Fred Wolf and Colin Quinn etc. The season ended on 18th May 1996. The 22nd season started on 28th September 1996. In the season spanning 20 episodes, cast members Nancy Walls and David Koechner were replaced by Ana Gesteyer and Tracy Morgan. The 25th season began on 26th September 1999 with the first episode dedicated to 25 years of the series. In this season, Horatio Sanz, Chris Pamell, and Jimmy Fallon were upgraded as full time cast members. Maya Rudolph and Rachel Dratch were hired as featured cast members. The season ended on 20th May 2000 with a total of 21 episodes. The 26th season began on 7th October 2000. Cheri Oteri and Colin Quinn, left the show along with Tim Meadows. Jimmy Falon and Tina Fey became the new co-anchors for Weekend Update. The 21st and last episode of the season was aired on 19th May 2001. On 29th September 2001, the first episode of the 27th season was telecast just eighteen days after the September 11 attacks. In this season, Jerry Minor was replaced by Dean Edwards. Will Ferrell and Ana Gesteyer left at the end of the season. The season ended on 18th May 2002 after 22 episodes. The 28th season of the series started on 5th October 2002. Fred Armisen and Will Forte were hired as featured players. This was the final season for Chris Kattan and Tracy Morgan. 20 episodes were aired in the season with the final episode aired on 17th May 2003. The 29th season began on 5th October 2003. Comedians, Finesse Mitchell and Kenan Thompson were recruited. This was Jimmy Falon’s last season for the series. The season had a total of 20 episodes and the last episode was aired on 17th May 2004. The 30th episode of the series was premiered on 2nd October 2004. Comedians Rob Riggle and Jason Sudeikis joined the show. The season also witnessed the blunder of Ashlee Simpson, when she tried to lip-sync during her second performance. The season ended on 21st May 2005 with a total of 20 episodes.
